hesterykov (1859-1929) is a permanent member of staff of library of the Novorossiysk University from 1885 to 1920. He was the assistant to the librarian till 1905, and after the death of the previous director L. F. Brun, he becomes the head of library. P. S. Shesterykov stood at the origins domestic library science, about forty years fought for recognition of library science as sciences, emphasized about need of special preparation for library shots, promoted formation in public consciousness of inhabitants of Odessa of the worthy relation to the librarian’s profession. For writing of works on history of the ONU Scientific library, employees often use the book P. S. Shesterykov “Statement of library science in university and some other libraries of Russia” (Odessa, 1915). He was the initiator and further work Odessa bibliographic Union at the University of Novorossiysk. At the beginning of 1906, the staff and teachers of the Novorossiysk University and amateurs of books organized in the city of a literary circle, which over time has been transformed into a scientific society. P. S. Shesterykov himself made the draft of the charter gave for consideration to professors of university, and its first meeting took place already on January 13, 1907.
