The fund of the Scientific library has about 4 million copies. This is a unique collection of information sources which include books, pamphlets, periodicals, publications on electronic media and more. One of the library features is a presence of 17 nominal book collections – former personal libraries which belonged to an outstanding scientists, statesmen, university professors. Especially valuable is the periodicals department, which includes nearly 60% of the library, about 300 thousand of it – periodicals of XVII-XIX centuries. Today the Scientific library has a valuable collection of scientific and socio-political journals of leading European states. Some of them are presented as complete sets for many years, and sometimes even centuries. Due to scientific and universality of its funds Scientific library of Odessa I. I. Mechnikov National University is one of the most important social institutions today.
