Povar R. M. (?-1941)
In 1933 according to the resolution of Council of People’s Commissars of USSR, the Odessa state university as a part of three faculties resumed the activity. In 1934 headed university library R. M. Povar. She was the young promoted worker – the worker of garment factory. From that time, it began a period of specific and practical work of the library as one of the largest auxiliary of the University institutions. Under the direction of the Povar R. M. in library by means of scientists of university the system of classification of literature was developed. Creation of the alphabetic index to the systematic catalog, and drawing up thematic card files, such as local history (Odessyka) and of history of the Odessa state university was begun. The library began to receive an obligatory paid copy of all book editions appearing in the country. In 1938, the bibliographic department was created.
On the eve of World War II the book fund of library grew to 1 million 300 thousand volumes. Worked 26 employees. The student’s library contained 100 thousand volumes, had 10 permanent members of staff. In 1941 M. Povar it was left in the occupied Odessa for underground struggle. She died in the first days of the occupation, has attracted attention as a Communist and a Jew, which is well known in the city.
